First things first, not all installers are affected by this problem. It can be 10-20%, it can be 100-200 releases (mostly from 2017-2020 era), very hard to estimate today. All big/popular releases I find with this issue will be fully recompressed in the following months (with "V2" in the linkname).
If you have high end CPU like Intel-13900K / AMD-9950X with +32 threads and unexpected installer behaviour:
installer is stuck at 0% for more than 10-30 seconds
installer is suddenly shutting down without any error (installer window disappears, it can be any moment from 1% to 99%)
installer is giving error "Not enough memory! Unarc.dll returned an error code -5"
All above issues can be quickly fixed in 1 minute by changing logical processors count. To do this press WinKey+R and type "msconfig" (or open StartMenu and type "msconfig"). Then click on second tab "Boot" -> "Advanced Options" -> "Number of processors". Select 8 or 16 processors, click OK and reboot your PC. Of course, this will temporarily reduce your PC performance, so after you install the game - change it back to the previous state and reboot computer again.
It's difficult to say which exact CPU models/configurations are affected, but once you have any of the issues written above, lowering CPU count should solve them. Info will remain on top of the page for entire April 2025.
